Why do you sing?

Why do you play your instrument? Isn't it because, deep down, you want to be heard?

What are the chances that anyone will listen as you sing or play?

I recall how shocked I was as a young adult returning to serious piano study to have a teacher (Hans Neumann) who made sure to let me know that he was listening as I played. It was simple: he would sit at the piano and imitate what I had just done. I was young, playing intuitively, with no real concept of choices in my playing. In later years, exposure to teachers of the fault-finding school nearly cut me off from my purpose on the planet. Succinctly put, it was to figure out Mozart, nothing less. Why did that matter? Because his music bugged me as a child, as it does to this day. Thanks, Wolfgang, and blessings!
