Bringing to life

Struggling to bring to life what has always seemed to me the single most difficult duo for piano plus one, I realize, at last, that having learned to think harmony and beats to the bar (as in, "beat me, Daddy"), I lacked proper respect for note values and articulation markings: the essence of counterpoint. Ironically the "stand-up" part, playable by a variety of instruments, is so "easy" that it is routinely assigned to teen-age music students. Yikes.

The work in question is by Schumann. not surprising! Dave Eggar and I will be revisiting it one week from now in a house-concert, after years of in-depth work, not on this specific piece, but on this composer, so dear to his musicianly heart and to mine: so enigmatic, so full of dilemmas, so compelling.

There is room for a few more: Get in touch for details.
