Out of tune

Talk about hearing! Yesterday I took two hours out of a busy day to listen to a hearing of the Congressional Jan. 6 committee: It was staggering. I am still reeling. To see that young woman speak of what was clearly unspeakable was overwhelming.


I recall how hurt I was during Watergate: how sure that my kids would never trust American politics. I was wrong about them. But I will never forget the seasoned Republican who replied, when I confronted him with my grief: “Get used to it.”


And here we are.
