C Major Triad

My collaboration with Dave Eggar began with my having picked a passage in a Brahms Trio which he had never played, a passage which was based on a C major triad unlike any other I had ever heard.

Can you imagine that a C major triad would have that power?

Such, indeed, is the subject of Tonal Refraction. It gets to the nitty-gritty beneath the print, beyond the theory, the place where the response is pure gut, no matter how "ordinary" the situation seems.
