The goal is to foster long-range musical growth in the context of general intellectual, physical and emotional development. Children ranging in age from 5 to 20 ideally have two sessions per week: one 45-minute private lesson and one hour shared with another youngster. Skills are built in a developmentally informed, unpressured atmosphere stressing individual growth supported with mutually receptive listening. Gross-motor precede fine-motor skills. Ensemble improvisation, singing, and movement develop responsive listening. Twentieth-century pedagogical material assures a familiar tone environment. Original, creative methods build music reading skills. • Periodic parties (not recitals) reinforce a joyous, unpressured experience. • Family ensemble sessions for one or two parents and children ages 6 to 10: improvisation using percussion instruments, singing, etc., depending on the group. Alternate Saturday afternoons, October through May. A great way to understand your young learner. ADULTS Adult amateurs seeking mature satisfaction, despite limited time to practice listening-based keyboard and reading skills. Every level is adult, whether advanced or not. Teenagers are encouraged to participate in the Chamber Music sessions.
